The Acura MDX is currently one of the best-selling crossover SUVs on the U.S. market. The third generation of this popular car arrived only a few years ago, offering great versatility and reliability. On top of that, Acura’s flagship crossover received substantial updates for 2017. The latest set of enhancements brought a refreshed exterior styling and a host of new safety features. As of very recently, there is a hybrid-powered MDX on offer as well. In that regard, don’t expect the 2018 Acura MDX to surprise us with any dramatic changes. The upcoming model should get only subtle updates in the form of new body paints and new standard amenities. Rumor has it that the 2018 is likely to hit the showrooms in mid-2017.
2018 Acura MDX Redesign
After the latest styling update, the MDX now sports Acura’s new visual identity. Its front grille features a diamond pentagon grille that makes it more aggressive than the previous model. The MDX also gets a reshaped hood and restyled “Jewel Eye” headlights. At the back, expect to see a redesigned bumper as well as refreshed dual exhaust outlets. Thanks to its sloping rear window, this sleek crossover SUV boasts an almost coupe-like appearance. Upper trim levels offer 20-inch wheels, whereas standard models come with 18-inches.
As for the interior, the 3-row MDX offers an exceptionally comfortable cabin for up to seven passengers. The recently introduced Advance trim comes with Milano leather upholstery and genuine wood. However, even the lower trim levels offer leather interior and premium features such as a power moonroof. Now, the 2018 MDX redesign will offer a longer of list of standard amenities. Expect it to feature the AcuraWatch suite of safety and semi-autonomous driving systems as standard. There will also be tri-zone climate control, power tailgate, Siri Eyes Free compatibility, etc.
The 2018 Acura MDX will have a conventional V6 engine and a hybrid drivetrain at its disposal. The 3.5-liter unit will generate 290 horsepower and 267 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission. The gas-electric MDX will use a 3.0-liter V6 and two electric motors with a combined output of 325 horsepower. The hybrid version will come with a 7-speed automatic gearbox.
