The Buick Encore was one of very few small crossovers on offer when it first arrived in 2013. However, its competition has been growing bigger ever since, with the niche becoming overcrowded. Some of the Encore’s contemporary rivals include the likes of Audi Q3, BMW X1, Mazda CX-3, and Honda HR-V. Fresh from the 2017 mid-cycle update, Buick’s crossover is slated to receive only modest enhancements for the 2018 model year. Besides a couple of interior tweaks, the 2018 Buick Encore should offer a longer list of standard convenience and safety features. Rumor has it that the upcoming model could hit the showrooms in the third quarter of 2017.
2018 Buick Encore Design and Features
After the latest set of styling updates, the Encore now sports a new winged grille and sculpted hood. Another prominent change comes in the form of new 18-inch alloy wheels that add to the model’s more youthful look. The 2018 Encore SUV also boasts LED-accented projector beam headlights as well as LED-infused taillights. Its front end actually resembles the one seen on the 2018 Buick Envision to a great extent.
Now, the Encore’s interior gives off an even more premium feel. The center console features an 8-inch color touchscreen, while the instrument cluster incorporates a 4.2-inch driver-information display. Expect the cabin to offer blue ambient lighting, metal accents as well as plenty of soft-touch surfaces. Even the base Buick Encore 2018 will come with an impressive list of standard amenities. Some of them include push-button start, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Buick IntelliLink telematics with an 8-inch touchscreen.
Just like its predecessor, the 2018 Buick Encore will have two versions of the same four-cylinder at its disposal. Base models will use a 1.4-liter turbocharged unit that gives 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque. The version upgraded with direct-injection will churn out 153 ponies and 177 pound-feet of twist. Transmission comes in the form of a six-speed automatic with manual-style shifting capabilities. The combination results in quite impressive performance figures and fuel efficiency.
The entry-level Encore is likely to retain its current starting price of around $24,000. As for the fully loaded range-topping 2018 Buick Encore, expect it to begin close to $35,000.
