A few weeks ago, Opel revealed the Opel Insignia aimed to go on sale as a 2017 model. Now, General Motors will actually bring the same model to the U.S. as the next-generation Buick Regal. Alongside the sedan version, Buick intends to launch a wagon model as well. The latter will actually come as GM’s first wagon after the discontinuation of the CTS-V Sport Wagon. Rumor has it that the next-generation Regal could make its debut in the first half of 2017. As for the speculations about the 2018 Buick Regal Grand National and GNX variants, they turned out to be unsubstantiated.
2018 Buick Regal Redesign
Design-wise, the 2018 Buick Regal will be almost identical to the latest 2018 Opel Insignia. The only notable difference will come with the slightly restyled front grille and badging. Expect the redesigned model to feature a sleek new design accentuated with LED lights. Its overall exteriors design has obviously been influenced by Opel’s Monza concept. As a result, Buick’ sedan appears larger and more upscale than it actually is. Its crisp lines combined with subtle surfaces bring this car closer to the premium segment.
The upcoming Regal will benefit from a new modular platform that allows for a more athletic and aerodynamic sheet metal. When it comes to proportions, the tracks are now wider by 11 mm with the roofline being lower by 29 mm. The wheelbase got extended by 92 mm, while the overhangs come significantly reduced in comparison with the previous model. In addition to the sporty appearance, the model will offer a more spacious cabin. Moreover, the new underpinnings resulted in weight savings of up to 385 pounds.

Details concerning the engine range have yet to be officially confirmed. However, we expect the 2018 Buick Regal to use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine making around 250 horsepower. Some sources suggest that under its hood we could also see a 1.5-liter four-banger that makes 163 hp in the Malibu. Rumor has it that the automaker is even planning a V6 powertrain to motivate the 2018 Regal GS version. In any case, front-wheel drive will come standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. As for the transmission, an eight-speed gearbox is currently the likeliest candidate.
Both the sedan and wagon variants of the Regal will be among the strongest competitors on the North American and Chinese markets. More information on the 2018 Buick Regal engine range and pricing will hopefully surface very soon. We’ll be happy to share any details as soon as they hit the web.
