2018 Cadillac XTS Redesign with New Technology

There has been much speculation concerning a possible discontinuation of the Cadillac XTS after 2019. However, the latest spy shots and official statements coming from the American automaker suggest otherwise. Namely, Cadillac is due to refresh the XTS for the 2018 model year. Apart from receiving an exterior overhaul, 2018 Cadillac XTS  will also benefit from a number of technological enhancements. With the upcoming update, Cadillac hopes to boost the XTS’s sales that used to be their flagship sedan when it first arrived. According to some reports,  this sleek sedan could go on sale in the second half of 2017.

 Design and Features

The 2018 Cadillac XTS refresh is primarily expected to bring styling updates to this full-size luxury sedan. Based on the most recent batch of spy photos, the bulk of the changes will be concentrated on its front fascia. The XTS’s new front end seems to take inspiration from the CT6. So, expect its front end to sport a simpler grille with horizontal slats. The headlights appear to mimic those seen on the rest of Cadillac’s lineup by adopting a vertical LED strip. The changes at the rear side aren’t so easily discernible due to heavy camouflage. While the test mule retains vertical taillights and rectangular exhausts, it seems to feature a restyled trunk lid and bumper.

Cadillac XTS interior

More substantial reports on the interior overhaul have yet to come. However, the 2018 Cadillac XTS is expected to bring a host of improved materials and several styling tweaks. It will also get the latest version of Cadillac’s CUE infotainment system.

2018 Cadillac XTS  Engine Range

The 2018 Cadillac XTS will once again offer two engine choices. Entry-level models will use a direct-injected 3.6-liter V6 that generates 305 horsepower and 264 pound-feet of torque. As for the AWD XTS Vsport, expect it to get a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter V6 with 410 hp and 369 lb-ft. The base powertrain will be available with both FWD and AWD, with the turbo version offering AWD exclusively. Both units come paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

 Pricing and Competition

Official details concerning the price tag for the 2018 Cadillac XTS are still unavailable. Our guess is that the base XTS with FWD is likely to start at around $46,000. With such pricing figures, it should be able to undercut the likes of BMW 5 Series and Lexus GS.
