As evidenced by a recent batch of spy photos, Ford is preparing a successor to the current Focus. The popular hatchback will reportedly grow in size while receiving a revised engine range. In terms of design and technology, the next-gen Ford Focus is likely to mimic the larger Mondeo/Fusion. Some sources claim that the 2018 Ford Focus might arrive in late 2017 or early 2018. Alongside the hatchback variant, expect this model to go on sale in sedan and wagon configurations.
2018 Focus Design Changes
The upcoming model will ride on a slightly larger platform with an extended wheelbase. So, expect the new Focus to become longer and wider than ever before. As a result, its often criticized small cabin space will grow significantly larger in the next-generation model. The new dimensions will enable Ford’s hatchback to rival the likes of VW Golf and Opel Astra in terms of headroom and legroom. As for the exterior styling, the spied test mule didn’t reveal too much. However, expect the 2018 Ford Focus to borrow heavily from the Mondeo/Fusion sedan. Some of the giveaway styling cues include LED lighting patterns as well as the recognizable shoulder line.
Unfortunately, there is no available info on the interior design yet. On the other hand, it’s safe to assume that the Focus will adopt a similar layout found in its larger sibling. Expect it to get the latest SYNC 3 with voice recognition, advanced safety systems and a slew of connectivity features. Ford is also due to replace the outdated dashboard and center console design with something completely different. As part of the technological makeover, the Ford Focus 2018 will get a larger infotainment screen.
2018 Ford Focus Engine Range
Rumor has it that the 2018 Ford Focus should benefit from revised versions of the company’s EcoBoost gas engines. However, Ford will retain the diesel technology as well. Recent reports reveal that the new diesel engine lineup will use a new ‘EcoBlue’ badging. More details concerning the power outputs and fuel economy will hopefully surface in the coming months.
Needless to say, the 2018 Ford Focus will be up against formidable competitors in this hotly contested segment. Depending on the market, some of the most prominent names include the likes of VW Golf, Honda Civic, Hyundai i30 and Renault Megane.
