Honda announced an all-new Civic Si at the 2016 Los Angeles motor show just a few months ago. Showcased as a thinly veiled prototype, the upcoming Civic Si is scheduled to arrive as a 2018 model. The upcoming performance-oriented version of the popular Civic will be more powerful than ever. Expect also the brand new 2018 Honda Civic Type R to go on sale shortly after the Civic Si variant. According to official sources, the 2018 Honda Civic Si will be available in both sedan and coupe form. We expect it to hit the showrooms in mid-2017.
2018 Honda Civic Si Design and Features
Needless to say, the Civic Si will sport a slew of distinguishing features that will give it a sporty appearance. Its front end will get big air intakes on the redesigned bumper with a front splitter. At the back, expect to see a rear wing and diffuser, as well as a center exhaust outlet. The Honda Civic Si 2018 will also come with 19-inch forged aluminum alloy wheels and optional high-performance tires. Some of the high-tech features will include an active steering system, active damper system and limited-slip differential.
The production-ready model is likely to retain most of the interior trim seen in the prototype. So, expect the 2018 Honda Civic Si’s cabin to offer exclusive front sport seats with red stitching and Si logos. Doors, steering wheel and leather shift knob will get more of the red stitching. Other exclusive features will include red accents on the instrument panel and aluminum pedals.
2018 Civic Si Engine Specs
The 2018 Honda Civic Si will have a turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder under its hood. Although official output numbers have yet to come, we expect it to churn out somewhere between 220 and 230 horsepower. The only available transmission will be a six-speed automatic. Unfortunately, details concerning the fuel economy are still unavailable. In any case, the brand new version of the Civic Si will definitely outdo its predecessor’s 205 hp and 174 lb-ft.
Pricing and Competition
The company has yet to reveal official pricing details but we expect the entry-level model to start at around $25,000. The 2018 Honda Civic Si should rival the likes of Ford Focus ST, VW Golf GTI and Subaru WRX.
