The second-generation QX70 arrived in 2008 under the FX moniker but later adopted its current nameplate in 2013. Although it still offers an appealing exterior styling, the QX70 would benefit greatly from a thorough makeover. As confirmed by several independent sources, this luxury crossover SUV is about to enter its third iteration as a 2018 model. So, expect the 2018 Infiniti QX70 to be based on the 2016 QX Sport Inspiration concept. Moreover, this sleek-looking concept is expected to influence the rest of the brand’s crossover lineup. Rumor has it that the next generation Infiniti QX70 might make its debut in early 2018.
2018 Infiniti QX70 Design
Design-wise, expect the upcoming QX70 to take its cues from the aforementioned QX Sport Inspiration concept. In other words, Infiniti mid-size crossover SUV should benefit from the brand’s latest “Power Elegance” design language. However, expect it to retain some its most recognizable styling cues such as the double-arch grille and crescent-cut C-pillar. According to Infiniti officials, the QX70’s new design philosophy could be described simply as “proportional clarity”. In that regard, expect it to feature more flowing and natural lines compared to traditional luxury SUVs.
As for the interior design, expect the 2018 Infiniti QX70 to benefit from a more adventurous approach. Its cabin should come replete with unconventional curves and shapes, as well as Infiniti’s most advanced technology. Expect also an entirely new dashboard design accentuated with the most premium materials. Of course, it remains to be seen to what extent the production model will resemble the concept vehicle.
Official data on the 2018 Infiniti QX70’s engine range are still unavailable. Rumor has it that the redesigned model could use a brand new powertrain. It is supposedly due to come in the form of a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged DOHC V6 that makes around 350 hp. When it comes to the outgoing model, it currently uses a 3.7-liter V6 that cranks out 325 ponies. A seven-speed dual-clutch transmission with manual-shift mode and Adaptive Shift Control transmits the power to the wheels. While rear-wheel drive comes standard, all-wheel drive is available as an option.
The third-generation QX70 will certainly bring a new quality to the premium SUV segment. Expect the 2018 Infiniti QX70 to compete with some formidable rivals such as the Porsche Cayenne and Jaguar F-Pace.
