2018 Kia Soul subcompact crossover SUV Release

As confirmed by recently taken spy photos, Kia is currently working on an all-new subcompact crossover SUV. The yet unnamed model will be joining the CUV segment that has been expanding rapidly over the last few years. Kia’s latest addition to the lineup will ride on the same platform as the new Rio. Design-wise, the upcoming crossover should draw inspiration from the Provo concept that made its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. Rumor has it that the 2018 Kia Soul subcompact crossover SUV could arrive by the end of 2017.

As mentioned, Kia’s new CUV is likely to share its underpinnings with the recently revealed Rio hatchback. Of course, expect the 2018 Kia Soul subcompact crossover SUV to benefit from a higher ground clearance. When it comes to exterior styling, details are still scarce. Reliable sources claim that the upcoming vehicle should be based on the 2013 Provo concept. However, the spied test prototype suggests that most of its extravagant styling cues won’t make it to the production model. Instead, expect a more toned down version of the Provo design language. Compared to the boxy Soul crossover, the new CUV’s sheet metal will be much more rounded. Inside, expect it to offer a unique cabin layout with plenty of premium materials and sleek color themes.

2018 Kia Soul SUV Engine Department

Official statements concerning the 2018 Kia Soul subcompact crossover SUV’s engine options have yet to come. We believe the 2.0-liter four-cylinder that generates 164 horsepower in the Soul could be the entry-level unit. The more powerful option is likely to come in the form of a 200-hp turbocharged 1.6-liter inline-4. Kia’s brand new small crossover should come with standard front-wheel drive and optional all-wheel drive. An automatic transmission is likely to be available as an only option.

Some reports speculate that the upcoming CUV could compromise the sales of other Kia crossover models such as the Niro and Soul. In any case, expect the 2018 Kia Soul subcompact crossover SUV to become a fierce rival to the likes of Toyota CH-R and Mazda CX-3.
