Japanese automaker Mazda has been producing its flagship minivan since 1999. It was launched as Mazda Premacy back in the time. The same vehicle was marketed in Taiwan by Ford as Ford Ixion. Mazda had initially marketed the vehicle for European and Asian consumers but launched it in the US from second generation onwards as the Mazda 5. However, due to declining sales, the minivan was discontinued in the US from 2016. The 2018 Mazda 5 Minivan will be a comeback in the market for Mazda’s iconic multi purpose vehicle (MPV).
Redesign of Mazda 5 Minivan 2018
The design of 2018 Mazda 5 Minivan is based on the Mazda3 concept that Mazda has been adopting in its recent vehicles. Aluminum and high-strength steel parts are used to make the body lighter. It will be a 6 seater minivan in simple utility targeted body with lean forward front hood. Sliding rear doors are characteristic of any minivan. The front fascia sports a new grille design flanked by highly elongated LED headlamps. Small but powerful fog lights are studded onto the bumpers.
American consumers will be familiar with the design of Mazda 5 Minivan since as it has been on the roads since 2006 before being discontinued. Mazda’s minivan is solely built for storage purpose and consumers seeking for huge cabin space. The two rear rows of seats are foldable to accommodate extra space for storage. 2nd-row seats also have to slide and reclining features to allow better access to the last row.
Storage bins under pilot seat and under-the-cushion storage gaps also provide ample options to stow away passengers’ stuff. All passengers will have cup holders.
2018 Mazda 5 Minivan would be available in two trim levels – CS and the Grand Touring. Advanced air conditioning, power sunroof, leather-wrapped steering wheel, remote keyless entry, power windows, dual-zone climate control and DVD stereo with USB and Bluetooth connectivity are features that will come in both trims.
The CS trim will stand on 16-inch alloy wheels while higher trims might be getting 17-inch wheels. The Grand Touring version of the minivan will have a little upper hand in luxury with leather upholstery, warmed front seats and rocker still extensions.
All passengers will have the safety of front and side curtain airbags. Other safety features include antilock disc brakes, cruise control and reverse drive sensors.
2018 Mazda 5 Minivan engine specifications
The all new Mazda Minivan has a forward wheel drive structure with an option for all wheel drive. Another engine option can be a 2 liter turbocharged 155 HP power and 150 lb-ft torque engine. Engines will be backed by a 5-speed automatic transmission with manual shift mode option. If rumors are correct, a hybrid drivetrain might also be added to the 2018 Mazda 5 Minivan which is aimed at reducing fuel emissions.
