The next-generation Supra will finally arrive as a 2018 model after a long process of development. Latest spy images give us a better insight into the Supra’s exterior styling. What is more, the spied prototype has even given us a glimpse of the car’s interior. As we’ve learned before, the 2018 Toyota Supra will be built in cooperation with BMW. So, expect it to share much of its features with the new Z5 that replaces the Z4 sports car. The idea behind this joint venture is to cut production costs substantially. As a result, the all-new Supra will use BMW’s platform while adopting Toyota’s hybrid drivetrain.
2018 Toyota Supra Redesign
Design-wise, the new Supra will be greatly influenced by Toyota’s 2014 FT-1 concept. However, production-ready model will feature a toned down version of the concept’s aggressive styling. The aforementioned prototype reveals that the Supra will sport the concept’s nose almost entirely unchanged. Its front end will also get a new bumper with large air intakes. Short front and rear overhangs as well as numerous dramatic curves will give this model a dynamic appearance. At the back, the Toyota Supra 2018 will mimic the FT-1’s rounded ducktail spoiler. Below it, expect to see horizontally positioned taillights and two huge exhaust pipes protruding from the rear bumper. BMW’s new, lighter and stiffer chassis will make this sports car more nimble and exceptionally fun to drive.
Specs and Horsepower
As for the Supra’s engine range and specs, we are still awaiting more reliable reports. Some sources claim that the 2018 Toyota Supra will share its gasoline powertrains with the BMW Z5. Namely, the German automaker is reportedly developing four-cylinder and inline-six turbocharged units for both models. Moreover, Toyota is likely to hybridize BMW’s 2.0-liter four-cylinder and use it in the range-topping Supra. Some reports are even suggesting that we might get to see a twin-turbocharged V6 making 400 horsepower under its hood.
The 2018 Toyota Supra sports coupe will be warmly welcomed by car enthusiasts from all over the globe. Although we now have a better picture of what it should look like, details on the 2018 Supra specs and 2018 Supra price tag have yet to come.
