The current iteration of the Yaris hatchback arrived for the 2015 model year. Toyota’s little hatchback has been one of the most popular models in its class for years now. However, the Japanese automaker received a lot of criticism for not offering a high-performance version of the Yaris. That’s about to change now with the introduction of the Yaris GRMN (Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring) for 2018. The latest addition to the Yaris lineup will make its public debut at the upcoming Geneva auto show in March 2017. Inspired by the recently launched Yaris WRC, the 2018 Toyota Yaris GRMN will rival the likes of Ford Fiesta ST and VW Polo GTi.
Design and Features
Full details on the Yaris GRMN in terms of exterior styling are still unavailable. However, Toyota did release a couple of renderings to give us a hint. The most prominent changes over the regular model are visible on the front fascia. Expect the 2018 Toyota Yaris GRMN to feature a more aggressive front end with a restyled nose and revamped headlights. The car’s already large trapezoidal grille is even bigger now and comes with a honeycomb mesh. Also, the engine hood seems to have a small bulge, which is quite unusual for this small hatchback. Apart from the red and black decals and double-six-spoke wheels, the sides appear unchanged. At the back, expect to see new taillights that extend well into the trunk lid. Also redesigned are the bumper and tailgate which now features a large trapezoidal recess.
On the inside, the 2018 Toyota Yaris GRMN will get a host of new styling cues and improved materials. Expect its cabin to offer a revised steering wheel and a larger infotainment screen. The instrument cluster should receive new dials as well as a small display. On top of that, expect the GRMN model to benefit from enhanced legroom and shoulder room.
2018 Toyota Yaris GRMN Engine Specs
Of course, the most interesting piece of information when it comes to the Toyota Yaris hot hatch is its powertrain. The company has confirmed a supercharged 1.8-liter four-cylinder to power the new GRMN model. According to the automaker, it will deliver 207 horsepower, outperforming both the VW Polo GTi and Ford Fiesta ST200. Although both models are expecting a redesign for 2018, the 2018 Toyota Yaris GRMN is likely to remain the most powerful option.
2018 Yaris GRMN Price
Pricing information is still unavailable but the GRMN will certainly be the most expensive model in the Yaris lineup. Rumor has it that the new Toyota Yaris GRMN is likely to start around £19,000 on the UK market. Unfortunately, we’re still awaiting official statements on the Yaris GRMN’s possible U.S. launch.
