According to several fresh reports, Subaru is due to launch a redesigned Forester for the 2019 model year. The current iteration of this dependable SUV has been around since 2012, scoring excellent sales figures. Although it lags behind its competition in terms of exterior styling, the Forester has become renowned for its class-leading reliability. Now, the Japanese automaker will try to give this popular model a more appealing sheet metal with the upcoming redesign. If everything goes as planned, the 2019 Subaru Forester XT Redesign should arrive by the end of 2018.
2019 Subaru Forester XT Design Changes
When it comes to the next-gen Forester’s exterior design, we’re still awaiting more substantial reports. However, we do know that it will ride on Subaru’s new “Global Platform”. The all-new platform should underpin all of the company’s future models, bringing a host of notable improvements. As a result, the 2019 Subaru Forester Redesign will benefit from a new level of refinement and safety. Design-wise, it is expected to adopt the company’s latest design language that has been previewed by recent concept models. We expect the upcoming Forester to feature an exterior styling that borrows heavily from the 2014 Viziv 2 Concept. So, the new iteration should wear a swoopy-looking sheet metal that will make it much more appealing than its predecessor. Expect it to receive a new corporate grille as well as Hawkeye headlights. Inside, the new Forester will offer vastly improved materials and the automaker’s latest technology.
Subaru’s new modular architecture will make the redesigned 2019 Forester lighter and more rigid. In addition to reduced curb weight, it will also get an upgraded engine range with higher output numbers. Expect also the brand new Forester to be more agile and fuel efficient than ever. As for the ongoing model, it currently uses two four-cylinder engines. Most Foresters get a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter unit that gives 170 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque. This unit comes paired with either a 6-speed manual transmission or the Lineartronic CVT automatic. The more powerful Forester 2.0XT uses a turbocharged 2.0-liter engine that punches out 250 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. It comes with a High-Torque Lineatronic continuously variable transmission (CVT).
2019 Forester XT Price
Official pricing numbers for the 2019 Subaru Forester XT Redesign have yet to come. However, we expect it to be priced slightly higher than the current iteration that starts just under $23,500. Needless to say, this hotly contested segment includes a larger number of formidable rivals. Some of them come in the form of the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, Chevrolet Equinox and Mazda CX-5.
