Subaru recently offered an updated version of the WRX and WRX STI models for the 2018 model year. The refreshments and improvements, the new model, are evident, and certainly, well arrived. Nevertheless, more attention is drawn to the announcement of the new generation of the mentioned models. It’s no secret that the 2020 Subaru WRX and WRX STI should bring about significant changes in relation to the current model. Much has become clearer, by promoting this brand at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Show.
At the said event, Subaru introduced Viziv Performance Concept. This concept has served as an announcement for a new generation of WRX and a stronger version of the WRX STI model. This is not the only thing Subaru has decided to offer its customers. Specifically, this Japanese brand has decided to refresh the offer of all its models.
Some time ago, a refreshed Subaru BRZ was offered. We have already mentioned that both the WRX and WRX STI 2018 have gone through the process of finishing. It should not be forgotten that Legacy got some improvements, as well as Crosstrak crossover model. For the 2019 model year, the redesigned Subaru Forester is being prepared. In the end, the current Tribeca SUV gets its successor in the form of a seven-seat SUV model, called the Subaru Ascent.
Subaru Viziv Performance Concept
As expected, Viziv Performance Concept previews the next generation of the WRX and WRX STI. More precisely, this concept is the vision of the next-generation sports sedan. This concept has the latest Subaru “Dynamic x Solid” design vocabulary. There are also “hawkeye” headlights and numerous assist systems for the driver.
The concept is 4.630 mm long, 1.950 mm wide, 1.430 mm high. The wheelbase is 2,730 mm. The vehicle features cameras instead of conventional rearview mirrors. Large openings for the air, sharp LED headlights are visible on the front. On the back of the vehicle, the spoiler on the trunk dominates, and the four exhaust pipes. The roof is made of carbon fiber, and there are alloy wheels of 20 inches.
As far as the drive is concerned, the Subaru Viziv Performance Concept is equipped with a “high performance” boxer engine. Finally, there is a symmetric drive on all four wheels.
2020 Subaru WRX Specs
It is known that Subaru prefers boxer engines, for its high performance models. That’s why it does not surprise us that the aforementioned concept has such a kind of engine. It should be expected that the 2020 Subaru WRX, as well as a stronger version of the WRX STI, will get this kind of engine.
Currently, the WRX has a 2.0-liter turbo engine with 268 horsepower, while the WRX STI is powered by a more powerful 2.5-liter turbo with 305 horsepower. Both models have a four-wheel drive and 6-speed manual transmission. Sport Lineartronic CVT gearbox is offered as an option.
Both versions come with adaptive front lights, in LED technology. Also, the vehicle has a differently tuned suspension, upgraded brakes with Brembo signed, as well as improved handling, compared to the previous version.
Release and Price
2020 Subaru WRX and 2020 Subaru WRX STI have been announced for the end of this decade. More specifically, their sales should start at the end of 2019, or at the beginning of 2020.
As far as prices are concerned, so far, no official information. According to some forecasts, the price of the new generation of the model should not be different from the price of the current model. If the price changes and come, it will be minimal.
