According to the latest rumors, a production-ready version of the stunning Cadillac Ciel concept might make its debut in the near future. This head-turning four-door convertible was unveiled at the 2011 Pebble Beach Concoursd’Elegance. It was featuring a number of unconventional styling cues such as rear suicide doors. The Ciel (which is French for “sky”) came equipped with a hybrid electric system comprising a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Of course, it remains to be seen to what extent the upcoming model will resemble the concept on which it is based. When it comes to the Cadillac Ciel release date, we are still awaiting more reliable estimations.
Cadillac Ciel Specs
By all standards, the Cadillac Ciel represents what is best in the American automotive design. The long and low, four-door drop-top boasts a sheet metal like no other currently available on the market. Its masculine front fascia is seamlessly integrated with sharp fender creases, with vertical headlights flowing back to the fenders. Thanks to its 125-inch long wheelbase, the Ciel offers two rows of seating with plenty of passenger space. On the other hand, the model is designed in line with Cadillac’s “Art & Science” design philosophy that makes it instantly recognizable. To top off the amazing looks, the concept was fitted with huge 22-inch wheels and carbon-ceramic brake rotors.
Cadillac Ciel Interior
The Cadillac Ciel’s interior is an even more impressive piece of design. To name just a couple of its innovative features, we’ll mention a holographic instrument panel and touch-sensitive pads on each door handle that serve as climate controls. The cabin is also replete with wood inserts and other high-end materials. Some of these features will hopefully find their way into the production-ready Ciel.
Another unusual aspect of the Ciel concept is its hybrid electric drivetrain. It consists of Cadillac’s well-known 3.6-liter V6 and a lithium-ion battery, with the overall output estimated at 425 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. According to widespread opinion, this gas-electric system is highly unlikely to make it to the production line. Instead, the upcoming Ciel will feature a more conventional powertrain under its hood.
Cadillac Ciel Price
Although it would be great news if we could see a new four-door convertible on the streets after many decades. The Cadillac Ciel is more likely to go on sale as a flagship sedan with a fixed roof. In any case, the future Ciel sedan will bring revolutionary changes to this segment once it hits the showrooms.
